Wells Harbour Light Railway

The Wells Next to Sea Harbour Railway, which ran from 1976 to 2021, had two stations along its 1,200-yard 10+1⁄4 in (260 mm) gauge track - Wells harbour and Pinewoods caravan park. The railway operated with three diesel locomotives - Dennis, Howard, and The Duke - all of which are now at the Lappa Valley Railway in Cornwall. In January 1970, the track was washed away by a storm, but it was rebuilt and operational again for the summer season. However, the railway's future was uncertain in April 2021, and it was ultimately closed in September 2021. On November 14th 2021, all the line had been ripped up except for small parts on the level crossings. The landowners have announced plans for a replacement service for the summer 2022 season, but the details are yet to be made public. The Wells Harbour railway will be missed by many who loved it during its 45-year run.

I feel a sense of regret for not visiting and taking photos of the lost railway during its open days. However, time cannot be reversed.

I obtained all the images of the railway's open days from Wikimedia and Geograph. I am grateful to those who shared these pictures for the public to use.

If you have any photos you would like to contribute, please feel free to send them to me.

I will give you full credit for your contribution.

Wells Harbour railway

After the closure in September 2021

Wells Harbour station remains photographed on the 14th November 2021

There is no disputing the fact that the Wells station has suffered complete destruction.

As of November 2021, here is an update on the remaining portion of the Wells Harbour light railway.
